Welcome to Kojoato, an enchanting café nestled in the historical heart of Nara, Japan. Located just a short stroll away from the iconic Todai-ji Temple, this unique establishment offers not just a meal, but an experience steeped in rich history and delightful flavors.

From the moment you step inside Kojoato, the ambiance embraces you with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The café is housed in a striking building originally established in 1925 as a lactobacillus beverage factory. The charm of its old factory aesthetic, complemented by shelves adorned with various items, provides a fascinating glimpse into the past. It's a testament to the blend of tradition and innovation that defines this beloved spot.

At Kojoato, breakfast is a celebration, featuring the 朝のセットメニュー, which translates to "Morning Set Menu." Priced at JP¥1,760, this enticing set includes a welcoming drink of your choice—a refreshing start just like the delightful 紫蘇ジュース (shiso juice) that several delighted patrons have reviewed. The meal is complemented by a beautifully arranged plate of morning toast, accompanied by savory sausages or smoke-cured salmon, vibrant salads, homemade yogurt topped with seasonal fruits, and your choice of beverages including coffee, café au lait, various teas, and herb infusions. Each bite is a harmony of flavors, designed to invigorate your senses and set a positive tone for the day.

As past visitors like Katsuhisa Ishizaki noted, enjoying the well-curated meal felt like a true indulgence, especially in the context of Nara's serene beauty. The café's health-focused offerings, such as nutrients from yogurt and seasonal fruits, reflect the owner’s commitment to well-being and quality, which have impressed guests like Alexandra Bonilla who praised the café's revitalizing hot beverages on a chilly winter day.

In addition to its signature breakfast, Kojoato serves delightful Japanese treats, including exquisite ほうじ茶と白玉だんごセット, showcasing the harmonious flavors of various sweet bean pastes paired with delicate rice dumplings, leaving guests like KEI enchanted.

If you're looking for an authentic taste of Nara, the reviews speak for themselves, with satisfied customers highlighting the meticulously crafted dishes and attentive service that characterize a visit to Kojoato. This café not only provides a meal but fosters community—where learning about local culture and history enriches the experience. The attentive staff are proficient in English, ensuring that every guest feels welcome and cared for.

So, whether you're embarking on a morning exploration of Nara's treasures or seeking a cozy spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing, make sure to reserve your place at Kojoato.

Amazing cafe! We found this on accident while walking down from Todai-ji Nigatsu-do. The owner explained all about the places history.

Took the back route to Todaiji from the An-Grande hotel (highly recommended to avoid all traffic of human and cars). Super quiet cute little side streets with a proper feel for Nara. On the backside of Kegoryo there is a little bamboo forest and across the street is a little farm shed looking property where you will find this gem. Very welcoming and lots of take you back in time type vibes. For those who want to be off the beaten path and are overwhelmed by the hectic tourism- take the back route and pop in here for a little break and a drink and snack.
